It's like this: Nothing had ever happened to me in my life before. You know how it is when you come out of ether or nitrous-oxide at the dentist's, you come back to somewhere, a familiar somewhere; but the place from which you have come is nowhere; and yet you have been there.
That is what happened to me.
I woke up from eternity, from infinity, from a state of mind enormously more vital and conscious than anything we know of otherwise, although one can't give it a name, to discover that this nameless thought of nothingness was in reality two black vast spheres in which I saw myself. - A.C.
